چکیده

Pumped Hydropower Storage (PHS) is the maturest and most economically viable technology for storing energy regulating electrical grid on a large scale. Due to growing amount of intermittent renewable sources, necessity maintaining stability increases. Most PHS facilities today require geographical topology with differences in elevation. The ALPHEUS H2020 EU project has aim develop flat topologies. present study was concerned initial design low-head model counter-rotating pump-turbine. machine numerically analysed during shutdown startup sequences using computational fluid dynamics. rotational speed individual runners decreased from point stand-still increased back point, both pump turbine modes. As speeds were close zero, flow field chaotic, separation occurred by blades runners. Rapid load variations runner reverse encountered mode as lost ability produce head. loads less severe sequence. Frequency analyses revealed that blade passing frequencies their linear combinations yielded strongest pulsations system.

Three-dimensional transient simulation of a prototype pump-turbine during normal turbine shutdown

Three-dimensional numerical simulations are carried out by commercial software STAR-CCM+ to investigate the hydraulic transient and flow behaviours of a prototype pump-turbine during the normal shutdown process. The global characteristics and pressure fluctuations are analysed as the pump-turbine runs through the turbine mode, into the turbine braking mode, and finally into the reversed pump mo...

Resonance investigation of pump-turbine during startup process

The causes of resonance of a certain model pump-turbine unit during startup process were investigated in this article. A three-dimensional full flow path analysis model which contains spiral case, stay vanes, guide vanes, runner, gaps outside the runner crown and band, and draft tube was constructed. The transient hydraulic excitation force of full flow path was analyzed under five conditions n...

investigating the feasibility of a proposed model for geometric design of deployable arch structures

deployable scissor type structures are composed of the so-called scissor-like elements (sles), which are connected to each other at an intermediate point through a pivotal connection and allow them to be folded into a compact bundle for storage or transport. several sles are connected to each other in order to form units with regular polygonal plan views. the sides and radii of the polygons are...

Three‐dimensional flow field around and downstream of a subscale model rotating vertical axis wind turbine

One well-known obstacle facing most sources of renewable energy is the significantly decreased energy density with respect to fossil fuels. Energy density of wind power is further penalized by the need for wind turbines to be spaced far enough apart to not interfere with one another. Conventional horizontal axis wind turbines (HAWTs) must be spaced far apart [3–5 turbine diameters in the crossw...
